Skincare Guide for Beginners: Combination Skin | Part 3

If you’ve ever had trouble figuring out whether your skin type is dry or oily, chances are you have combination skin. Combination skin as the name suggests is a mix of dry and oily areas.

Typically the t-zone ( forehead, nose, chin) is oily, whereas the cheeks suffer from dry patches. Combination skin can be quite tricky because not only do you want to control the shine, but you also have to ensure that the dry areas are well moisturized. For instance, some days your skin might be a perfect blend of oily and dry. But on other days, it could lean more either towards dry or oily.

Build A Routine

Skincare routine for combination skin consists of a gel-based face wash, followed by a hydrating and soothing toner, an SPF, and finally a moisturizer. Additionally exfoliating and masking show optimum results and maintain skin health.

Morning routine   
  1. Gentle gel-based cleanser
  2. Toner (optional)
  3. Use a gel-based, oil-free moisturizer
  4. Broad Spectrum SPF
Night routine   
  1. Gentle gel-based cleanser
  2. Toner (optional)
  3. Use a gel-based, oil-free moisturizer
 Extras 
  1. Use a gel or water-like liquid BHA exfoliant
  2. Multi mask- use a pore cleansing mask for t-zone and similarly a hydrating/ moisturizing for cheeks
  3. If you suffer from acne, spot correct using Benzoyl Peroxide (I also have an article on acne-prone skin, check that out)
